Guide for the Perplexed, Contradiction.
A sort of Guide for the perplexed.
News feeds in the corporate media have become esoteric these days and consulting Maimonides is not such a bad idea.
Maimonides
Introductory Remarks. [ON METHOD] THERE are seven causes of inconsistencies and contradictions to be met within a literary work.
The first cause arises from the fact that the author collects the opinions of various men, each differing from the other, but neglects to mention the name of the author of any particular opinion. In such a work contradictions or inconsistencies must occur, since any two statements may belong to two different authors.
Second cause: The author holds at first one opinion which he subsequently rejects: in his work., however, both his original and altered views are retained.
Third cause: The passages in question are not all to be taken literally: some only are to be understood in their literal sense, while in others figurative language is employed, which includes another meaning besides the literal one: or, in the apparently inconsistent passages, figurative language is employed which, if taken literally, would seem to be contradictories or contraries.
Fourth cause: The premises are not identical in both statements, but for certain reasons they are not fully stated in these passages: or two propositions with different subjects which are expressed by the same term without having the difference in meaning pointed out, occur in two passages. The contradiction is therefore only apparent, but there is no contradiction in reality.
The fifth cause is traceable to the use of a certain method adopted in teaching and expounding profound problems. Namely, a difficult and obscure theorem must sometimes be mentioned and assumed as known, for the illustration of some elementary and intelligible subject which must be taught beforehand the commencement being always made with the easier thing. The teacher must therefore facilitate, in any manner which he can devise, the explanation of those theorems, which have to be assumed as known, and he must content himself with giving a general though somewhat inaccurate notion on the subject. It is, for the present, explained according to the capacity of the students, that they may comprehend it as far as they are required to understand the subject. Later on, the same subject is thoroughly treated and fully developed in its right place.
Sixth cause: The contradiction is not apparent, and only becomes evident through a series of premises. The larger the number of premises necessary to prove the contradiction between the two conclusions, the greater is the chance that it will escape detection, and that the author will not perceive his own inconsistency. Only when from each conclusion, by means of suitable premises, an inference is made, and from the enunciation thus inferred, by means of proper arguments, other conclusions are formed, and after that process has been repeated many times, then it becomes clear that the original conclusions are contradictories or contraries. Even able writers are liable to overlook such inconsistencies. If, however, the contradiction between the original statements can at once be discovered, and the author, while writing the second, does not think of the first, he evinces a greater deficiency, and his words deserve no notice whatever.
Seventh cause: It is sometimes necessary to introduce such metaphysical matter as may partly be disclosed, but must partly be concealed: while, therefore, on one occasion the object which the author has in view may demand that the metaphysical problem be treated as solved in one way, it may be convenient on another occasion to treat it as solved in the opposite way. The author must endeavour, by concealing the fact as much as possible, to prevent the uneducated reader from perceiving the contradiction.
Jain Many SidedNess
Anekāntavāda (Sanskrit: अनेकान्तवाद, “many-sidedness”) refers to the Jain doctrine about metaphysical truths that emerged in ancient India.[1] It states that the ultimate truth and reality is complex and has multiple aspects.[2] Anekantavada has also been interpreted to mean non-absolutism, “intellectual Ahimsa”,[3] religious pluralism,[4] as well as a rejection of fanaticism that leads to terror attacks and mass violence.[5] Some scholars state that modern revisionism has attempted to reinterpret anekantavada with religious tolerance, openmindedness and pluralism.[6][7]

AQUAL Integral Approach
Holons[edit]
Main article: Holon (philosophy)
Holons are the individual building blocks of Wilber’s model. Wilber borrowed the concept of holons from Arthur Koestler‘s description of the great chain of being, a mediaeval description of levels of being. “Holon” means that every entity and concept is both an entity on its own, and a hierarchical part of a larger whole. For example, a cell in an organism is both a whole as a cell, and at the same time a part of another whole, the organism. Likewise a letter is a self-existing entity and simultaneously an integral part of a word, which then is part of a sentence, which is part of a paragraph, which is part of a page; and so on. Everything from quarks to matter to energy to ideas can be looked at in this way. The relation between individuals and society is not the same as between cells and organisms though, because individual holons can be members but not parts of social holons.[26]
In his book Sex, Ecology, Spirituality: The Spirit of Evolution, Wilber outlines twenty fundamental properties, called “tenets”, that characterize all holons.[27] For example, they must be able to maintain their “wholeness” and also their “part-ness;” a holon that cannot maintain its wholeness will cease to exist and will break up into its constituent parts.
Holons form natural “holarchies“, like Russian dolls, where a whole is a part of another whole, in turn part of another whole, and so on.
Quadrants[edit]
Each holon can be seen from within (subjective, interior perspective) and from the outside (objective, exterior perspective), and from an individual or a collective perspective.[28]
Each of the four approaches has a valid perspective to offer. The subjective emotional pain of a person who suffers a tragedy is one perspective; the social statistics about such tragedies are different perspectives on the same matter. According to Wilber all are needed for real appreciation of a matter.
Wilber uses this grid to categorize the perspectives of various theories and scholars, for example:
Interior individual perspective (upper-left quadrant) include Freudian psychoanalysis, which interprets people’s interior experiences and focuses on “I”
Interior plural perspective (lower-left) include Gadamer‘s philosophical hermeneutics which seeks to interpret the collective consciousness of a society, or plurality of people and focuses on “We”
Exterior individual perspective (upper-right) include B. F. Skinner‘s behaviorism, which limits itself to the observation of the behavior of organisms and treats the internal experience, decision making or volition of the subject as a black box, and which with the fourth perspective emphasizes the subject as a specimen to examine, or “It”.
Exterior plural perspective (lower-right) include Marxist economic theory which focuses upon the behavior of a society (i.e. a plurality of people) as functional entities seen from outside, e.g. “They”.
According to Wilber, all four perspectives offer complementary, rather than contradictory, perspectives. It is possible for all to be correct, and all are necessary for a complete account of human existence. According to Wilber, each by itself offers only a partial view of reality.
According to Wilber modern western society has a pathological focus on the exterior or objective perspective. Such perspectives value that which can be externally measured and tested in a laboratory, but tend to deny or marginalize the left sides (subjectivity, individual experience, feelings, values) as unproven or having no meaning. Wilber identifies this as a fundamental cause of society’s malaise, and names the situation resulting from such perspectives, “flatland”.
Notes[edit]
^ Jump up to:a b Piaget‘s theory of cognitive development,[29] Kohlberg‘s stages of moral development, Erikson‘s stages of psychosocial development, and Jane Loevinger‘s stages of ego development.
^ This interpretation is at odds with structural stage theory, which posits an overall follow-up of stages, instead of variations over several domains.
^ This too is wildly at odds with structural stage theory, but in line with Wilber’s philosophical idealism, which sees the phenomenal world as a concretisation, or immanation, of a “higher,” transcendental reality, which can be “realized” in “religious experience.”
^ The Madhyamaka Two Truths Doctrine discerns two epistemological truths, namely conventional and ultimate. Conventional truth is the truth of phenomenal appearances and causal relations, our daily common-sense world. Ultimate truth is the recognition that no-“thing” exists inherently; every”thing” is empty, sunyata of an unchanging “essence.” It also means that there is no unchanging transcendental reality underlying phenomenal existence. “Formless awareness” belongs to another strand of Indian thinking, namely Advaita and Buddha-nature, which are ontological approaches, and do posit such a transcendental, unchanging reality, namely “awareness” or “consciousness.” Wilber seems to be mixing, or confusing, these two different approaches freely, in his attempt to integrate “everything” into one conceptual scheme.
^ For example:
^ Note that Wilber presents Aurobindo’s level of Being as developmental stages, whereas Aurobindo describes higher development as a Triple Transformation, which includes “psychicisation” (Wilber’s psychic stage), the turn inward and the discovery of the psychic being; spiritualisation, the transformation of the lower being through the realisation of the psychic being, and involves the Higher Mind; and “supramentalisation,” the realisation of Supermind, itself the intermediary between Spirit or Satcitananda and creation. A correct table would include Aurobindo’s Triple Transformation and the Three Beings:
Comparison of the models of Wilber and Aurobindo; differentiating between Aurobindo’s levels of being and Aurobindo’s developmental stages.
^ In his book Integral Spirituality, Wilber identifies a few varieties of states:
The three daily cycling natural states: waking, dreaming, and sleeping.
Penomenal states such as bodily sensations, emotions, mental ideas, memories, or inspirations, or from exterior sources such as our sensorimotor inputs, seeing, hearing, touching, smelling, tasting.
Altered states, is divided into two groups:
Exogenous or induced states: psychedelic and other drug-induced states; hypnosis and hypnotherapy; psycho-therapeutic techniques; gestalt therapy; psychodrama; voice dialoguetechniques; biofeedback states; forms of guided imagery;
Endogenous or trained states: performance enhancement techniques in sports therapy; meditative training which work on calming, relaxation, equanimity states; and mental imaging and visualization such as tonglen meditation.
Some techniques, such as Neuro-linguistic Programming, work with both endogenous and exogenous types.
Spontaneous or peak states: unintentional or unexpected shifts of awareness from gross to subtle or causal states of consciousness.[36]

Golem you wrote:
‘Hello Robin,
Of course you are right that debt abd credit will always exist.
When I read GB’s comment I read it as referring to fractional reserve banking as we currently have it – controlled by the private banks. It is that kind of sovereign debt I was thinking of in my reply.
I don’t think many people object to one person lending to another or a chit of credit acting as a temporary store and means of transferring wealth. Perhaps some do. I am not one.
Credit is a useful social mechanism. But it has got out of hand and into the hands of a few who use it to cause destitution and as the means to create huge and increasingly non-democratic power.
I think we can and must move away from such a distorted and morally corrupt social construction.
I am not looking for moral or political purity in some utopian fashion. I am simply looking for a better social compact and one that fits to an environmentally constrained world not the old idea of ever expanding growth.’
In response, here is a proposal for an Aristotelian Asset Money System.
‘When the lamp of money is lit a circle of shadows form filled with usurers, counterfeiters, thieves, swindlers and sociopaths. The light must be protected at all costs or the destiny of humanity is stolen.’
“You never change things by fighting the existing reality.
To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.”
― Richard Buckminster Fuller
’So Aristotle calls money a creature of the law. Not a commodity from nature but an abstract social institution. Its essence is not tangible wealth in itself, but a power to obtain wealth. THIS IS REGARDED AS A SUPREMELY IMPORTANT DISTINCTION – BETWEEN MONEY and wealth. If you are always trading in “things” it’s just an advanced form of barter.’
Zarlenga, ‘The Lost Science of Money.
1 – The Aristotelian system
I suggest we create a pure Aristotelian money system as an education device, as a system which is both transparent and yet resistant to fraud, a system designed to maximise freedom and value for its participants, with money acting simply as a medium for trade and not as a tool for usury.
This maximises the human potential for relationship, art, self discovery, growth and the pursuit of higher states of consciousness.
2 – What software to use?
The software platform would probably be the Cyclos software which runs many community currencies. There is a Cyclos 4 version now available in Beta form which will be free to non-profit organisations. (
http://www.cyclos.org/
)
This Cyclos software includes online banking, mobile banking, credit and debit card creation, and marketplace e-commerce.
https://www.cyclos.org/features
3 – Two forms of money
There are two fundamental ways of creating abstract money once we move beyond gifts, barter and commodity exchanges. They are primarily debt money in private hands and asset money in the hands of the nation.
Debt money usually comes into existence at the moment of the loan creation and is burdened with the three demons of inflation, interest and taxation.
Asset money exists like the waters behind a dam wall, self-existing, relatively eternal, and when controlled correctly it supplies water and power in amounts to cause neither drought nor flood. It is the money system proposed by Aristotle.
4 – The Money Unit
I propose that the money unit for the system would be similar to the scientific measurement for the metre which is the meeting point for time, space and the speed of light. (” a metre is the length of the path travelled by light in a vacuum during a time interval of 1/299,792,458 of a second.)
The money unit then, the Aristotelian unit of A, is the distance the human body-mind of a normal 80kg human covers at walking speed (5km/hr) in a period of one hour (5000m.) This A unit deems walking, the state of ‘relaxed falling’, to be similar in value to one hour of focused mind in study and intent.
These units can then be converted into joules, calories, light quanta, etc, as desired.
This measurement is the historical meeting point for human physiology, mind, time, space and the speed of light – a measurement which has been inflation proof for the last four million years of human hunter-gatherer existence and which is inherently logical to the human psyche.
(To say that we have no money while we have the life force of the community is to be simply hung upon the ‘cross of gold’ of William Bryan.)
Further, just as all previous measurement systems used by western science became redundant when the speed of light was measured in metres, so too does this system reflect a crossing of the ‘historical Rubicon’ into the realm of quantum finance.
(FAQ1 – Why talk of walking speed when we now travel at the speed of a Ferrari? Answer – when we add the hours spent in learning the craft to make the money to own the Ferrari we may be travelling slower than the hunter-gatherers from four million years ago at 5km/hr!)
FAQ2 – What differentiates between the work hour of a doctor and a street sweeper? Answer – the sweeper can charge 10 units an hour, the doctor 100. These measures simply reflect the completed hours of learning and experience which the professional brings to the task.)
Note: At this point the A unit would not be transferable into global financial currency systems because of the inherent problems with the legal and taxation systems. The A system would simply be a self functioning marketplace to demonstrate Aristotelian principles.
5 – Central Monetary Authority
The A system will have a central Monetary Authority for the creation and removal of A money, it will not be a peer to peer system, nor a debt or gift system.
The Authority will have the power to issue A money to itself instead of external taxation for its cost structure and projects. All efforts to avoid charging interest will be made.
(Interest on loaning a commodity such as gold is logical, interest on debt money created from nothing at the point of the loan however is simply criminal.
The problem Arab banking has with the interest problem with commodity backed money should be avoided with money based simply upon human life force. Losses can simply be voided within the system and penalties imposed.
There will however be strict guidelines with the initial loans and without the charges of taxation and interest echoing through the system I suspect the losses would be minimal as interest alone can be 40% of the final cost of goods and services.
This of course is all part of the educational experiment and the belief in the essence of human integrity!)
Note: If the A system was to be used for a nation, perhaps after a debt Jubilee and a debt Commission, then the Monetary Authority would have members elected by the general population, with four year tenures, who must approve the budgets of the Monetary Authority. This removes the potential power abuses of the professional bureaucracy and the inherent human tendency to create secret cabals.
6 – Starting the system running
Upon signing up to the A system each person would receive 100 A units plus a further 20 A’s per month for five months to make a seed fund of 200 A’s.
The Monetary Authority can also create A’s to expand the system according to need and numbers. A’s can also be withdrawn if the system starts to overheat.
Each A unit would be numbered with no rehypothecation, securitisation or fractional reserve creation. Each A’s position within the system would be instantly traceable. Accounts would also be transparent so that people can view the transaction history of the people they are dealing with.
People can apply to the Authority for business loans according to basic lending principles. They can also apply to other system members with excess capital.
There could perhaps be a monthly social dividend – say 20A depending upon the flow within each personal account. Zero transactions would be a zero dividend, a normal flow of transactions creates a dividend of 20A, etc. Hoarding would not be promoted.
7 – System aspects
There would be an international section for such things as language tuition and a local section for such things as massage.
There would be a for sale section, possibly with an auction section.
There could even be a share market where we can invest in each others business’s, with each share numbered and transparent and only legitimately sold.
Member’s can also offer services to the A platform to help it expand, such as hosting, programming, administration, etc.
Members will be able to rate each other with an integrity quotient.
There would be a Forum for discussion and suggestions.
Conclusion
These then are some thoughts for discussion, the seeds for a monetary model which will only grow through time and experience. Further, with the Cyclos 4 platform now available and free to non profit organisations, the A system has become simply a ‘click and go’ operation. Let the educational curve begin!
P.S. Here now is a brief summary of Cyclos and STRO, the Social Trade Organisation, from their website. (
http://www.cyclos.org/
)
STRO’s objective is to move money as a major steering mechanism in society from causing environmental abuse and preventing many poor to optimise their capacities, to become an instrument that serves a qualitative human development. The first STRO was founded in 1970 in Holland. Social Trade promotes the opportunity for communities to optimise the circulation of purchasing power in their community. Using the Social Trade methods the potential of the community can be optimised based on the community’s culture with respect for the environment. People involved in realising the Social Trade targets are working from local offices in Porto Alegre (Brazil), Montevideo (Uruguay), Tegucigalpa (Honduras), Utrecht (Holland), Lisbon (Portugal) and Murcia (Spain).
STRO picks up the challenge described by Bank of England’s governor Mervyn King:
“Is it possible that advances in technology will mean that (…) the world may come to resemble a pure exchange economy? Electronic transactions in real time hold out that possibility. There is no reason, in principle, why final settlements could not be carried out by the private sector without the need for clearing through the central bank. (…) There is no conceptual obstacle to the idea that two individuals engaged in a transaction could settle by a transfer of wealth from one electronic account to another in real time. (…) The same system could match demands and supplies of financial assets, determine prices and make settlements. Financial assets and real goods and services would be priced in terms of a unit of account. Final settlement could be made without any recourse to the central bank.(…) Without such a role in settlements, central banks, in their present form, would no longer exist; nor would money.”
Cyclos solutions for social impact.
The objective of the Social Trade Organisation is to provide a professional platform that can be used by different organisations and institutions that are aiming on social economic impact. Cyclos supports a wide variety of implementations.
Banks in developing countries
Cyclos allows local and regional banks to compete with big international banks, because Cyclos allows them to provide cost effective state of the art on-line banking, sms banking, POS and mobile banking services. This contributes to a more diverse banking sector which makes it stronger and more competitive. Regional banks are also known to invest more money in the region contributing directly to the country’s economic growth instead of international speculation.
Barters
Because of Cyclos barters can easily be set up at low cost, the barter doesn’t have to invest heavily in expensive software. Research shows that Barters can be very beneficial to a countries economy in times when capital is scarce, making countries more resilient in times of economic crises. The reason behind this is simple. When the economy suddenly contracts enterprises which still have products or services to offer, but not enough customers. Even if company A wants to buy a product from company B and company B wants to buy a product from company A, often the money (or credit) is missing to enable trade. A barter helps these companies to trade with each other through the barter network.
Campus card systems
An University campus, where a lot of local economic activity is happening is an ideal environment to implement an Campus card (payment) system with Cyclos. Some of the features are
• Student-to-Business payments (Parking, Copy/printing, Laundry, Bookstore, Restaurant, Housing, Events & Activities, Tuition)
• Student-to-Student micro payments (any goods or services exchanged among students)
• External-to-Student payment (donations from parents, who can specify payment destination)
• Student loans (emission/management)
• Market place (students can post offers and interests in goods and services)
• Market place notifications. SMS or e-mails can be sent automatically when personal criteria are matched in the marketplace
• University notifications & mailings can be send to groups of student’s by e-mail and/or SMS (events, emergencies)
• Student business profile (profiles can be included in a website that can be viewed by local businesses)
• Job board (local business can publish Jobs & internships)
• Available channels: Web, card/POS, mobile
• Independent: Not bound to contracts with specific software providers and Banks

The EIRp, oil typically lies between 10 and 30, but from 1949 to 2008 it ranges from 7.5 (1981) to 48 (1998) with a value of 8.8 in 2008 marking the year of the highest oil price in history and the beginning of the latest time period of US economic recession. The minimum EIRp, oil of 7.5 in 1981 also coincided with the peak of an economic recession in the US as well as the time of the highest overall cost of petroleum as a percentage of GDP at 8.5% (EIA 2008). EIRe, petro from 1970 to 2006 ranged from 5.3 in 1981 to 15.9 in 1998, the same years for the lowest and highest EIRp, oil. In 1981 EIRp, oil:EIRe, petro was 1.43:1 (minimum) and in 1998 3.05:1 (maximum). The EIRp, oil from 1949 to 1972 gradually increased from 19 to 29 with little volatility in the value. This lack of volatility can possibly be attributed to the Texas Railroad Commission (TRC) acting as an oil cartel by
pro rationing oil production in Texas from 1935 to 1973 to create a price floor for balancing supply and demand (Prindle 1981)
. With Texas as the swing state oil producer until US peak production in 1970, this balancing on the price was possible.

a general rise and fall, with increased volatility and a steady
declining trend since 1994 (with one anomalously high value
in 1998). Due to the dramatic drop in the price of oil from 2008
to 2009, the EIRp,oil is higher in 2009.2

Oil/tar sands require significantly more energy inputs to produce than historical
conventional oil. The bitumen is too viscous to flow underground in its natural state.
About 80% of bitumen resources are too deep to extract by digging. For these deeper
resources, a significant amount of fuel is burned to create steam that is injected
underground to enable the bitumen to flow and be pumped to the surface. For every
unit of energy input into production, less than 6 units of energy come out in the
extracted bitumen [10]. The U.S. oil and gas industry historically produced 10–20
units of energy relative to a unit of energy input [24]. Considering the additional
energy inputs for refining the oil to products such as gasoline and jet fuel, oil
sands deliver less than 3 units of energy, whereas conventional petroleum gasoline
historically delivered between 5 and 10 [31, 32, 35]. In general, the lower the
EROI, the higher the cost [34]. An EROI of 5 for gasoline roughly translates to
an equivalent gasoline price of near 4 $/gallon that U.S. consumers experienced in
2008 [31].

There are competitive- and resource-based explanations for the phases I have outlined in the results. Phase 1 (from 1947 to 1967) was a period in which there were no apparent limits to U.S. economic expansion. The U.S. was the major market economy as Western Europe and Japan were rebuilding from World War II. Thus, the U.S. had little economic competition. Declining food expenditures (e.g., food = energy) along with cheap and abundant energy via prolific oil fields (e.g., in Texas) enabled the U.S. to control energy prices. Texas oil production actually had to be held back by the Texas Railroad Commission to prevent price collapse. During this time, the U.S. economy built up ‘structural reserves’ in the sense that money became more evenly spread throughout the domestic economy. By all measures in this paper, monetary flows became more evenly distributed during Phase 1.
The years 1967–2002 (Phase 2) are characterized by energy and environmental constraints affecting the U.S. economy for the first time. The Clean Air Act (1970) and Clean Water Act (1972) were substantially increased in scope and enforcement. Further, peak U.S. crude oil production in 1970 enabled the Arab oil embargo of 1973, and OPEC’s increase in posted oil price in 1973 (Mitchell 2013), to raise oil prices to such a degree to cause major reactions by importing countries. The environmental and energy changes encouraged significant investment in utilities (e.g., wastewater treatment) and resource extraction (see Table 17) along with a focus on consumer energy efficiency for the first time since industrialization. As examples, the U.S. created car fuel efficiency standards known as Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE), shifted away from using oil for power generation (and temporarily also away from natural gas and toward coal), and expanded oil production into Alaska and the Gulf of Mexico. These and other macroeconomic factors (increasing debt ratios non-financial corporations (Minsky 2016; pp. 48–52); the end of spending for the Vietnam War; and a transition to government deficits in 1970 (Galbraith 2014; p. 41) resulted in gross power consumption and GDP increasing at a slower rate than before the 1970s. Starting in 1972, the U.S. has no longer been a net exporter of goods and services (except for 1982), and the oil and gas sector has been a net importer (in monetary terms) since 1967 (see Figure S7).
Thus, economic transactions stopped becoming more evenly distributed as the annual changes in conditional entropy and indeterminacy were close to zero. Hierarchy started to increase as fast as it decreased during Phase 1 while redundancy kept increasing. This combination of metrics indicates that some sectors started attracting an increased share of total flows through them even while all flows within the economy became more distributed.
The years 2002–2012 (Phase 3) are unique in that the I–O tables became more concentrated by all measures (the exact opposite trends of Phase 1). Mutual constraint, hierarchy (of node flows), and efficiency (of all flows) all increased during this time, while conditional entropy decreased. These changes are largely due to shifts toward increased energy (“Oil and Gas Extraction” Sector 3) and food sector purchases.

One takeaway is that the EIR of gasoline is lower than that for oil. For energetic
and monetary reasons this must be the case. As previously stated once we’ve
extracted oil, refiners must consume additional energy and spend more money to
turn oil into gasoline. The figure also compares the EIR of oil to a more detailed
calculation of EROI for the U.S. oil and gas sector. This EROI calculation uses
a more specific method that includes energy consumption data available every five
years [24]. Importantly, the two calculations follow the same trends. When one went
up, so did the other, and vice versa. Also, EIR of oil (only) is larger than the EROI of
the oil and gas sector, but when they approach values below ten (when oil is getting
relatively expensive), they become much closer to each other. This shows that when
energy costs get high, prices are forced to follow.
The comparison of energy output to inputs of energy carriers is not limited to
liquid fuels such as oil, gasoline, and ethanol. Figure 5.1 also shows the EIR for
electricity. This metric and its price inputs account for the entire supply chain of
extracting fuels burned in power plants, generating electricity, and delivering that
electricity to each business and homes. We tend to place more value on electricity
delivered to our home relative to gasoline at the pump. Electricity powers our
appliances and televisions and it charges our mobile devices and computers, and
we don’t have to operate a power plant in our home to use electricity. Thus, we pay
more dollars per unit of energy for electricity than for gasoline, and the net energy
ratio, or EIR, is lower.
We know different energy commodities have different prices per unit of energy,
different EROI, and we buy a mix of many energy products. Thus, we can also think
about the net energy of the entire energy system.
2/4 of the role of energy in the economy AND to learn about those of us that are pointing the way to better integration of energy and physical principles into macroeconomic modeling such that we can be better informed on impacts of policy (e.g., zero carbon, #GreenNewDeal).

The Monetary System bakes this into the cake with Interest going to the very top of the Pile. On Growth, GDP is a very poor metric both in what it seeks to measure and its monetary measuring metric.

2. Poor monetary and economic thought Much inane monetary thinking arises from the Austrian School of Economics, which has more influence in America than in Europe, thanks to its hold on American Libertarians. The monetary positions of this school are weak right from its founder Carl Menger’s theory of the origin of money. Their main monetary tract was written in 1912 by LudwigVon Mises at only age 31. Yet re-printings have almost no changes, despite the momentous monetary events that occurred since then! This reveals a kind of arrogance to beware of. Von Mises’ rarely read bookhas many contradictions and bold unsupported assertions on its key monetary positions, for example his assertion that: “The concept of money as a creature of law and the State is clearly untenable. It is not justified by a single phenomenon of the market.”
16
Why? No answer. That single statement brands him as either dishonest or foolish. It is clear from history that money is a creature of the law and the state. We have documented case histories that prove him wrong, in many of our chapters. The Austrian School - “A leap backward” The method of Von Mises and the Austrians is either a form of shouting as in the above example, or it is theoretical, a’priori reasoning. This use of deduction rather than observation, and their tendency to ignore the scientific method, caused the Austrian School to be labeled “a leap backwards” in economic thought by Edward C. Harwood, founder of the American Institute for Economic Research (AIER) in Great Barrington, Massachusetts: “Dr. Von Mises denies not once but several times that his theories can ever be disproved by facts. This point of view represents a leap backward to Platonic Idealism or one of its offspring in various disguises.”
17
The ongoing work of the AIER should not discard Harwood’s acute observations on this matter.© It should be mentioned that among the Austrian economists, the author truly admires Professor Murray Rothbard’s clear and unequivocal condemnation of fractional reserve banking as a “Ponzi scheme.” Von Mises criticized it less forcefully; but most Austrians support it in the name of free markets. Rothbard understood that free markets stop where fraud and privilege begin. We don’t mean to only single out the Austrians. Similar charges apply to other “schools” as well. As a “science,” economics is very ill.

November 10, 2023Edito
from Shimshon Bichler and Jonathan Nitzan [1]
The Hamas-Israel War
The 2023 war between Hamas and Israel elicits many different explanations. As with previous regional hostilities, here too, the pundits and commentators have numerous overlapping processes to draw on – from the struggle between the Zionist and Palestinian national movements, to the deep hostility between the Rabbinate and Islamic churches, to the many conflicts between Israel and Arab/Muslim states, the contentions between the declining superpowers (United States and Russia) and their rising contenders (like China, Iran, Turkey), the rift between western and eastern cultures, and so on.
The experts also highlight the growing importance of local militias – from Jewish settler organizations, to ISIS, Hamas, Islamic Jihad, Hezbollah, the Houthi movement, the Wagner Group and Kadyrovites Chechens – groups that operate under different political, religious and criminal guises, with varying financing and support from local, governmental and international sources to proxy and/or challenge different states. [2]
Our article does not deal with these specificities. Instead of focusing on the particular and unique, we concentrate on the general and universal. Concretely, we argue that the current war between Hamas and Israel shares an important common denominator with prior clashes in the region – namely, that it constitutes an energy conflict and that it correlates with the differential nature of capital accumulation. We coined these two terms in the late 1980s and have studied their underpinnings and implications for the Middle East and beyond ever since. [3] Our purpose in this paper is to highlight our theoretical arguments, update some of our key empirical evidence and show how both the theory and findings apply to the current Hamas-Israel war.
OPEC and the Petro Core
The late 1960s witnessed the emergence of a loose coalition between OPEC, the large oil companies, armament contractors, global construction firms and financial institutions, surrounded by shabby arms dealers, politicians, local militias, terrorist groups and media influencers – all connected, directly and indirectly, to military conflicts and energy crises in the Middle East. We labelled this alliance the ‘Weapondollar-Petrodollar Coalition’.
And here is the key point: the general conditions necessary for the spread, imposition and inflationary appreciation of intellectual property rights are opposite to those conducive to the inflation of weapon and oil prices. They require not instability, naked force and open violence, but the appearance of stability, both domestic and international, and the seeming prevalence of ‘law and order’.
In other words, the overall settings that boost one coalition tend to undermine the other – and vice versa. And since both coalitions have considerable leverage in domestic policy and international relations, it makes the conflict between them crucial for the fate of the Middle East and beyond.
And this is not a new phenomenon. The potential significance of intraclass conflicts was illustrated during the 1960s by Michael Kalecki. In his essays ‘The Fascism of Our Times’ (1964) and ‘Vietnam and U.S. Big Business’ (1967), he predicted that continued U.S. involvement in Vietnam would increase the dichotomy between the ‘old’, largely civilian business groups located mainly on the U.S. East Coast, and the ‘new’ militarized business groups, primarily the arms contractors, of the West Coast. The rise in military budgets, he anticipated, would force a redistribution of income from the old to the new groups. The ‘angry elements’ within the U.S. ruling class would then be significantly strengthened, pushing for a more aggressive foreign policy and a war economy: ‘It is a sad world indeed where the fate of all mankind depends upon the fight between two competing groups within American big business. This, however, is not quite new: many far-reaching upheavals in human history started from a cleavage at the top of the ruling class’ (Kalecki 1967: 114).
The Fascism of Our Times1 (1964)* 1. In the last few years we have noticed fervent activity among strong fascist groups in the developed capitalist countries. The most important of them are the OAS in France, the neo-Nazi elements in West Germany, and the Goldwaterites in the USA. All these groups have the following characteristics in common: a. In contrast to the Nazism of the period of the Great Depression of the 1930s, they do not resort to social demagogy. Goldwaterism even espouses the reverse ideology by criticizing government intervention and proclaiming the return to laissez-faire. b. They appeal to reactionary elements of the broad masses of the population by a variety of racist or chauvinistic slogans. For each of the countries considered these slogans can easily be condensed into one word: Algeria, revanche, Negroes. The fascist groups also proclaim the anti-communist crusade by capitalizing on a long period of official propaganda. c. The fascist elements are subsidized by the most reactionary groups of big business, which in this way usually also further their particular interests-the defence of their investments in Algeria, the expansion of certain branches of the armament industries, etc. The fascists are also supported by certain groups in the armed forces. d. However, the ruling class as a whole, even though it does not cherish the idea of fascist groups seizing power, does not make any effort to suppress them and confines itself to reprimands for overzealousness. We shall try to examine these characteristics of contemporary fascism point by point below and in this way to put them into proper perspective.
An analogous phenomenon may be observed in the USA. It seems fairly certain that after the murder of John Kennedy the government would have been able to deal a mortal blow to the right-wing extremists. But the way of conducting the inquiry, as presented in the Warren Commission report, shows the contrary tendency to evade implicating anyone but Oswald-who in the meantime has been successfully eliminated. It is in this state of lawlessness that the origin of Goldwater's candidacy may be found. In turn, this candidacy was not very firmly opposed inside the Republican Party, as it was directly controlled by big business. The behaviour of Eisenhower, who never tended to right-wing extremism, is quite significant here. Goldwater is right, at least in a sense that this is not the end of his career. For Goldwaterism is wanted by the ruling class as a pressure group against an excessive relaxation of international tensions and in order to restrain the Negro movement. Goldwater will exist not only because of the support of the 'predatory' groups of big business and the 'angry' elements of the military machine, as well as of his racist and reactionary followers, but most of all because he will be saved by those to whom he lost.

Republic of Science: Its Political and Economic Theory Michael Polanyi [This article originally appeared in Minerva 1:54-74, 1962 and is put on WWW with kind permission from Kluwer Academic Publishers (http://www.wkap.nl) and John C. Polanyi.] My title is intended to suggest that the community of scientists is organized in a way which resembles certain features of a body politic and works according to economic principles similar to those by which the production of material goods is regulated. Much of what I will have to say will be common knowledge among scientists, but I believe that it will recast the subject from a novel point of view which can both profit from and have a lesson for political and economic theory. For in the free cooperation of independent scientists we shall find a highly simplified model of a free society, which presents in isolation certain basic features of it that are more difficult to identify within the comprehensive functions of a national body. The first thing to make clear is that scientists, freely making their own choice of problems and pursuing them in the light of their own personal judgment, are in fact co-operating as members of a closely knit organization. The point can be settled by considering the opposite case where individuals are engaged in a joint task without being in any way coordinated. A group of women shelling peas work at the same task, but their individual efforts are not co-ordinated. The same is true of a team of chess players. This is shown by the fact that the total amount of peas shelled and the total number of games won will not be affected if the members of the group are isolated from each other. Consider by contrast the effect which a complete isolation of scientists would have on the progress of science. Each scientist would go on for a while developing problems derived from the information initially available to all. But these problems would soon be exhausted, and in the absence of further information about the results achieved by others, new problems of any value would cease to arise, and scientific progress would come to a standstill. This shows that the activities of scientists are in fact coordinated, and it also reveals the principle of their co-ordination. This consists in the adjustment of the efforts of each to the hitherto achieved results of the others. We may call this a coordination by mutual adjustment of independent initiatives--of initiatives which are co-ordinated because each takes into account all the other initiatives operating within the same system.
"Two Dogmas of Empiricism" is a paper by analytic philosopher Willard Van Orman Quine published in 1951. According to University of Sydney professor of philosophy Peter Godfrey-Smith, this "paper [is] sometimes regarded as the most important in all of twentieth-century philosophy".[1] The paper is an attack on two central aspects of the logical positivists' philosophy: the first being the analytic–synthetic distinction between analytic truths and synthetic truths, explained by Quine as truths grounded only in meanings and independent of facts, and truths grounded in facts; the other being reductionism, the theory that each meaningful statement gets its meaning from some logical construction of terms that refer exclusively to immediate experience.
"Two Dogmas" has six sections. The first four focus on analyticity, the last two on reductionism. There, Quine turns the focus to the logical positivists' theory of meaning. He also presents his own holistic theory of meaning.

Abstract
This article details events in musical history that are central to understanding and treating modern psychopathology, social aggression, political corruption, genetic dysfunction, and cross-cultural degeneration of traditional values risking life on earth. This history concerns A=440Hz “standard tuning,” and the Rockefeller Foundation’s military commercialization of music.

MEET THE FUGGERS, BREXIT, THE EURO AND CLUELESS ELITES.
Meet the Fuggers or, its the Money Power stupid.Brexit, The Euro and clueless Elites.
The Eastern Roman empire under Justinian saw the seeds of its final fall to The Ottomans when Abd El Melik started paying tribute in Gold coinage under his own Political Branding you might say.
With all the talk of Brexit being the removal of a final obstacle to the deeper federation of a European State transcending tiresome nationalism, perhaps a little review of History, particularly Monetary history, might not be such a bad thing.
In the review of European competences carried out as a consultation by the foreign office regarding Brexit and or reform requirements of the Eu, two of the papers need to be considered in the context of the Money power argument.
The first paper considered is the Subsidiarity and proportionality aspects of the Lisbon treaty and the competences of the EU institutions vis National and regional democratic institutions. This is a trade-off between Centralised Efficiency and Local democracy.
The second trade-off is the mutually exclusive realities of either Democracy or Private Credit creation, both again are not possible you can have one or the other.
EU enlargement and The monetary union had already become a bridge too far for many British Voters by the time of the Maastricht treaty. The Lisbon was a bridge too far. to mix a metaphor, The straw that broke the camels back. The Irish The Danes, The Swedes, The Dutch pretty much most populations consulted have not given the EU zealots the right answer the first time around and the EU elite simply refused to see the point and have now simply adopted the expediency of not asking.
Two pieces of folk wisdom spring to mind.
´´QUIT WHILE YOU’RE AHEAD´´ANON.
´´If you love something, set it free; if it comes backs it’s yours, if it doesn’t, it never was ´´.
Richard Bach.

WHY ARE WE HERE, AN ESSAY PROVOKED BY GOLEM XIV´S DAVID MALONES LATEST DOCUMENTARY SERIES.
Why are we here, An essay provoked by Golem XIv´s David Malones latest Documentary Series.
The four films are:
1) Meaning Seeking Beings
2) The Reality of Ideas
3) The Animal Within
4) The Moral Compass
Here is the link to the first part.
Hi David I Look forward to finding a torrent in due course, looks fascinating.I really enjoyed the previews, stunning images, we expect nothing less from your lens. Rather silly that the Beeb or Channel 4 will not be showing it especially in these days of I Player on demand, it begs the question why did they air Hyper-Normalization, what is Curtis´s secret sauce?
I do not know why I am here at this moment in time, let alone who ,´´We´´are? or what ´WE´is? Who, where, when and why???. What everyone else is doing let alone why they are doing it ( personally I would not know where to start finding out).
Universals escape my possibility of imagination, let alone perception or understanding.

the habits of Authority and induction
When those listening seem deaf to what you tell
refrain if you please from poisoning the well

refrain from a hypocritical sneering attitude.
When your correspondent appeals to evidence

Are We at Crossed Purposes, A default setting, if we are honest with ourselves is to anticipate most of what we are going to hear? So as much as we like to think we listen, being at crossed purposes is likely far more common than we realise. Every conversation has its own unwritten small print this small print is the lens with which all anticipation and interpretation of external information gets filtered back into our deeper thoughts and are assigned their proper place in our own conceptual order of meaning to OurSelves, singularly not in any Royal We sense but sui generis to our own design between our individual self and the great cosmological static.
When we gain knowledge of the world are we experiencing it or are we thinking it? It is really a combination and a cycle between, Sleep and dreaming and Awakeness and automatic experiences External Sensing and imaginings within our thinking portal.
The eyes are the window to the soul looking in, but the soul is us looking out and acquiring physical experience of possibilities outside of our thoughtful imaginings.
our human Being is a portal that offers access to dimensions of Being and dimensions of thinking and combines the dimensions of Being and Thinking when we employ our powerful interdimensional apparatus to synthesise shareable goods or sometimes we synthesise a combination of Bads.

In the 1990ś Sir John Harvey Jones ( The retired Chairman of I C I the Chemical Giant) presented a wonderful television series called Trouble shooter, I still have the book. I watched it eagerly as a young man and remember marvelling at the informal yet spellbinding wisdom that Sir John radiated in his trademark managing by walking around.
fast forward to today and a blog I did last week about Lucian and his Auction of philosophers in the slave Market in Samos and the Pythagorian pitch of what his philosophy offered.” I will not teach you I will remind you.´
Then we have Socrates and his philosophy and inquiry into the citizens of Athens daily perceptions of reality, government by walking around and remembering by the Famous Socratic method.

Charlton’s stuff is free to download, It is not perfect nothing ever is. Looking at the separate arguments that people make rather than the ideology of the writer is a good practice I think, and one that is increaSINGLY Rare.
An example of Writers such as Charlton in the Past would be, say, Ezra Pound and his ABC of economics. Now Pound was a Fascist, that does not though diminish the criticism of debt based money and the Gold Standard, set out in his ABC of economics. I would argue the Same applies to Charlton, but also to Adolph Hitler and Mein Kamph. I have read all three, they provide insights to particular and peculiar world views but provide a perspective on events which the Orthodox Historical narrative obscure. Frank Harris is another writer worth reading, he was a friend and biographer of Oscar Wilde, yet his book, England or Germany a critique of social relations in the the UK , USA and Germany in the run-up to the First world war is a perspective you will not find in any standard History Text,
Kant contrasts “apodictic” with “problematic” and “assertoric” in the Critique of Pure Reason, on page A70/B95. . These matters are to do with what we know as truth in the world which is sometimes called reality. Some commentators have been arguing a ´Post-Truth´ turn in the news this is a logical error in reasoning for as Frank Harris says in England or Germany, p.144 ( https://archive.org/stream/englandorgerman01harrgoog/englandorgerman01harrgoog_djvu.txt)
´´Genius welcomes criticism; the more the
merrier, the higher the better. “Come look
what I’m doing´´, it cries fearlessly, knowing
that truth must help it and that in an open
struggle between truth and falsehood, truth has
nothing to fear. ´´
The same goes for Tragedy and Hope by Caroll Quigley, he was writing from the perspective of an elitist and yet manages to provide the core of most of the John Bircher type narratives in Skousen and Alex Jones´s world views,

”The reader of Pope, as of every author, is advised to begin by letting him say what he has to say, in his own manner to an open mind that seeks only to receive the impressions which the writer wishes to convey. First let the mind and spirit of the writer come into free, full contact with the mind and spirit of the reader, whose attitude at the first reading should be simply receptive. Such reading is the condition precedent to all true judgment of a writer’s work. All criticism that is not so grounded spreads as fog over a poet’s page. Read, reader, for yourself, without once pausing to remember what you have been told to think´´.
Henry Morley.

Thoughts lifting mist from the poet´s page.

Quiggleys words.p.232 tragedy and Hope.
´´but criticism should have been directed rather at the hypocrisy and lack
of realism in the ideals of the wartime propaganda and at the lack of honesty of the chief negotiators in carrying on the pretense that these ideals were still in effect while they violated them daily, and necessarily violated them. The settlements were clearly made by secret negotiations, by the Great Powers exclusively, and by power politics. They had to be. No settlements could ever have been made on any other bases. The failure of the chief negotiators (at least the Anglo-Americans) to admit this is regrettable, but behind their
reluctance to admit it is the even more regrettable fact that the lack of political experience and political education of the American and English electorates made it dangerous for the negotiators to admit the facts of life in international political relationships.”

Foucault. the episteme.
´´would define the episteme retrospectively as the strategic apparatus which permits of separating out from among all the statements which are possible those that will be
acceptable within, I won’t say a scientific theory, but a field of scientificity, and which it is possible to say are true or false. The episteme is the ‘apparatus’ which makes possible the separation, not of the true from the false, but of what may from what may not be characterised as
scientific.”[1] Michel Foucault.

the Pragmatist in me inspired by C S Pierce my favourite modern philosopher and one of the finest logicians that have come down to us says this.
CHARLES SANDERS PEIRCE: In order to
reason well …. it is absolutely necessary to possess … such virtues
as intellectual honesty and sincerity a
nd a real love of truth (2.82). The cause [of the success of scientific
inquirers] has been that the motive which has carried them
to the laboratory and the field has been a craving to
know how things really were … (1-34).
[Genuine inquiry consists I in diligent inquiry into truth for truth’s sake
(1.44), … in actually drawing the bow upon truth with in
tentness in the eye, with energy in the arm (1.235).
[When] it is no longer the reasoning which determines wh
at the conclusion shall be, but … the conclusion which
determines what the reasoning shall be … this is sham
reasoning…. The effect of this shamming is that men
come to look upon reasoning as mainly decorative….
Just my 5 penneth worth. But read widely and drink deeply of the pool of all knowledge. Judging a book by its cover was always an overrated past time in my opinion.

“Three modes of evolution have thus been brought before us: evolution by fortuitous variation, evolution by mechanical necessity, and evolution by creative love. We may term them tychastic evolution, or tychasm, anancastic evolution, or anancasm, and agapastic evolution, or agapasm. The doctrines which represent these as severally of principal importance we may term tychasticism, anancasticism, and agapasticism. On the other hand the mere propositions that absolute chance, mechanical necessity, and the law of love are severally operative in the cosmos may receive the names of tychism, anancism, and agapism.” — C. Red Lines, Settled Science, The end of History and entitled Facts.
I did a blog about Boris Johnson at the United Nations General Assembly on the last occasion of the periodic scolding of both the truth and of Bashar Assad, (http://letthemconfectsweeterlies.blogspot.se/2016/09/syria-cui-bono-incitatus-boris-johnson.html )
Since then the catechism of fake news has developed into a higher art form and as such I have been musing over the idea that, how would Claims made in newspapers or television media look if they were subject to the same rigors as claiming a patent over an invention, or innovation, what would the patent clerk turned truth clerk make of it all when he looked at his in-tray (inbox) of the hopeful claimants to a unique claim to some previously unasserted or unknown truth. We are further asked to bow to expert opinion, what constitutes an expert these days? Further how much better is an experts opinion than any other opinion where the content is speculation even common sense.
´´if it were easy to set standards for judging judgment that would be honoured across the opinion spectrum and not glibly dismissed as another sneaky effort to seize the high ground for a favourite cause, someone would have patented the process long ago.´´
Tetlock, Philip E. (2005), Expert Political Judgment: How Good Is It? How Can We Know?
´´If we want realistic odds on what will happen next, coupled to a willingness to admit mistakes, we are better off turning to experts who embody the intellectual traits of Isaiah Berlin’s prototypical fox—those who “know many little things,” draw from an eclectic array of traditions, and accept ambiguity and contradiction as inevitable features of life—than we are turning to Berlin’s hedgehogs—those who “know one big thing,” toil devotedly within one tradition, and reach for formulaic solutions to ill-defined problems.3´´

These matters are to do with what we know as truth in the world which is sometimes called reality. Some commentators have been arguing a ´Post Truth´ turn in the news this is a logical error in reasoning for as Frank harris says in England or Germany, p.144 ( https://archive.org/stream/englandorgerman01harrgoog/englandorgerman01harrgoog_djvu.txt)

World Premiere Performance of Bourgeois resolution. A poem in Three Voices for added 4th part Harmony.
World Premiere Performance of Bourgeois resolution. A poem in Three Voices for added 4th part Harmony.
This poem is composed of Sheet Poetry. The 3 Parts, speak alone and then dialogue in sequence, the Poem is followed as if guided by the Musical Notation for returning to the Head, Repeating choruses and proceeding to the Coda.
The Poem is written with the musical theory of discordance and alludes to Bach’s, equal temperament and the Greek system of Pythagorean Modes. The Pluralism in the musical language and the polysemous use of words allude to the context of art and historical juxtaposition of sequence and order and the use of suggestion in propaganda and modern use of cognitive dissonance.
The Broad influence of Society of Spectacle and the Discrete charm of the bourgeois, Mc Mullen’s Ghost Dance and not stated but there of Michael Foucault, drawing on a broad sweep of political philosophy from The Republic of Plato through to the enlightenment and political philosophy of the modern era.
The metaphor of a Wheel, revolving with each revolution of the wheel necessary plagiarizing and repeating the mistakes of the previous revolution. The poem argues for a Resolution to a discord through the harmonies of the voiceless always ignored and always excluded from the Bourgeoisie. Neo-Liberalism is the New Credo of the Bourgeoisie in the terms of this poem and it rejects representative politics for the corrupt charade that it is.
The spoken Introduction, discussing the themes found in the poem.
World Premiere Performance of Bourgeois resolution. A poem in Three Voices for added 4th part Harmony.

I started storyboarding the Grub Street eco system yesterday with a legacy Wix site, a Beezer App connecting to you, John Ward and David Malone to start looking at ways to extract data from the web on AUthors as they register on the platform, The App should extract data as served by Google and Mozilla and then optimise metadata to secure better legacy search results for registered Writers/Filmmakers on the platform,
This Mother of all bumper stickers is attempting to capture the breadth of functionality condensed into the proposed Grub Street Journal App the App is a Librarian and Curator for multimedia creators and a Curator/Librarian Sensai teacher devils advocate reading group and search engine for the Journal Subscribers. Every Subscriber is an Editor. critic and is the completer of the Grey space.
I think Web3 as a brand has negative connotations developed from 'land-grabbing' and this web2 vs web3 narrative
I think Web3 as a concept is inherently p2p. taking back data, taking back software, taking back connection etc…

Social Networks have been all the rage years ago when they reached their peak and destroyed a couple democracies around the world (including mine) but this is not a text about that. The lens I want to use for us to observe social networks is the content creation and manipulation lens, so grab your lens and follow me through some underexplained reasoning.
Social Networks try to present a minimal UI, just enough so that the core features are usable. They are target at common, easy idioms that foster passive engagement in the form of content consumption and sharing. Content sharing is not the same as creation or manipulation, you’re supposed to bring content from outside.
Social Networks have been optimized for mobile-first UIs which provide a better experience in detriment of a more powerful and flexible experience.
Social Networks prioritize artificial rituals such as liking which gives the trappings of interactivity without generating new content (while also helping fine tune their profiling and tracking data for advertisement purposes). In essence they are metric factories where most features are present to provide measurable forms of engagement to feed ML powered advertising engines. The content sharing is just the fuel used to burn through these metric rituals.
So, my case is, Social Networks limit the amount of interaction

#GolemXIV . David Malone is
D’Artagnan – The central character of the novel, d’Artagnan is a young, impoverished Gascon nobleman who comes to make his fortune in Paris. He is brave, noble, ambitious, crafty, and intelligent. Like any Romantic hero, he is driven by love and ruled by chivalry, but occasionally prone to fall into amoral behavior.
Porthos : [to Athos, who is about to duel D’Artagnan] Are you fighting this, er, fellow? But I’m meeting him meself.
D’Artagnan : But not till one o’clock, sir.
Aramis : Oh, no no no. I’m to fight him this afternoon.
D’Artagnan : At two o’clock, sir.
Athos : How long have you been in Paris?
D’Artagnan : Since eight o’clock this morning.
Athos : You waste little time, sir.
D’Artagnan : My father recommended that I fight duels.
Athos : [laughs] Well! Let us hope you can do him some credit, hm?

Re-branding Dissent
by Golem XIV on JANUARY 1, 2016 in LATEST
I am one of those who thinks that democracy is being destroyed. I know its fashionable to play cynical one-upmanship and say – ‘we’ve never had democracy’, or, ‘it was destroyed long ago’, but that game aside, I think its worth actually thinking about how, many forms of democratic expression, effective dissent and peaceful self-determination are being buried.
In “The Next Crisis” I argued that the Global Over-Class have decided that Democracy is a threat to their wealth and power and have more than likely given some thought to how best to neuter it while appearing to do no such thing. I suggested they would wish to keep the outward form of democracy, so as to keep us reassured and entertained, but remove any substance from it, leaving us with an empty but colourful stage show.
In part two of the series, I offered a list of the various ways this could be done (a sort of manifesto for the Over Class or, as I have called them elsewhere, The Disloyal and noted how many of those things were clearly already underway.
For example item three of the manifesto said,
3) professionalized Governance. Democracy can be and must be neutered, and an effective way of doing this is to insist that amateur, elected officials MUST take the advice of professional (read corporate) advisors. Expand current law to enforce this.
If this seems monstrous now, their argument, I suspect, will be that in an increasingly crowded, interconnected and globalised world we can no longer leave critically important decisions in the hands of the uneducated, in-expert and amateur. We must, of course, still be free to choose but must, from now on, be helped to choose ‘wisely’. And how can we choose wisely if we aren’t given wise choices to choose from? Oh, the Orwellian beauty of it! No prizes for guessing who will decide what is and what is not wise.
We cannot any longer allow you to choose unwisely! There is so much at stake and so much you and your representatives simply do not fully understand.

Roger Lewis and David Malone: One Interview To Unite Them All.
First of all, I’d like to introduce the interviewer Roger Lewis (left) who was, to me, most unexpected in his approach, the interview was no love in and he was not afraid to challenge David on the basis of his own views and outlook, for example on Brexit. I only know Roger through the blogosphere and the first surprise to me was his appearance. I’d imagined him as the type who went to bed in a suit and tie and only slightly loosened his collar when the temperature exceeded 35 degrees celsius. Instead I was confronted by a sanitised version of Catweasle! Long flowing locks and moustache, I hope he’ll forgive the Catweasle reference, casual clothes but a razor-sharp mind. There was an obvious chemistry between the two so even in times of disagreement there was no shouting across each other, both were able to make their points informatively.
via David Malone: Ungarbled (I Hope) Pt.1
This Interview was over two years ago, it was the previous Summer which I spent assisting David with his Leadership bid for the Green Party of England and Wales,
There has been a lot of water flowed under the Ye Olde Pont since then, as they say, and if a week is a long time in politics then the past 4 years has been an Eon, certainly, some sort of warp in space-time or maybe a paradigm shift has occurred.
From my first comment on Davids Blog and since I started reading that Blog after following a reference to it from Sturdy Blog which was a staple of my reading at the time, Davids approach has always been one of encouragement and inspiration.
